The Best Boutique Hotels in Mallorca

I’m not sure about you, but we have always loved a great boutique hotel. We also have some central beliefs about what sets a hotel apart as a boutique hotel and not just a luxury hotel. They are usually smaller and more intimate venues. For a hotel to be genuinely boutique, it must have its own personality. As well as the element of luxury, but where the styling or the building itself has been allowed to tell its own story. Mallorca has an incredible array of hotels that make the most of the island’s stunning scenery, but we believe just a few fantastic, truly boutique hotels.

We have first-hand experience restoring, designing, and running a boutique hotel. Prior to moving to Mallorca, we lovingly restored an almost derelict Georgian hotel on a landed estate in Derbyshire. And understand what it takes to create a great one, from the building design, room layout, drinks, and food offerings to the all-important seamless service that makes your stay truly special.

We have whittled the list down to just eight hotels from locations across the island. Within that, there are some real standouts.

Bikini Island & Mountain Hotel, Port de Soller

Carrer de Migjorn, 2, 07108 Port de Sóller

Without a doubt, it is one of our favorite boutique hotels in Mallorca; it is bigger than your typical boutique hotel. It has the intimacy, personality, and service you would expect in a smaller boutique hotel. So much so that we just had to include it in our boutique hotel recommendations.

The first thing that struck us about Bikini was the chilled Hawaiian look and feel. The styling is so well thought through, with a mix of natural materials, bright colors, and washed-out tones creating a real ocean feel. It was, however, the openness of the whole hotel, all designed to bring the outside in and make the most of those stunning ocean views of Port de Soller, that gave it this real Hawaiian feel. All are designed to wrap around and almost pull in the stunning decked pool and Pikkini pool bar. All covered in sun loungers, ready for the friendly staff to bring their great array of drinks and snacks without even having to leave your bed!

There’s so much on offer: smoothies, juices, milkshakes, coffee, beers, wines, and cocktails, including the own Sangria, the Almuerzo Rosado, a must-try rose wine, strawberry gin, and ginger—need I say more? The food menu is simple but fantastic. We had the jamon iberico on sourdough, which I can honestly say is the best ham and cheese sandwich we have ever tasted.

When arriving at the hotel, you immediately feel relaxed. The rooms are ample in size and well-designed, with everything you would expect in terms of facilities. Ours had a lovely balcony overlooking the pool and sea views. The little touches have been thought of, like the Bikini-branded bath robes, sun hat, coffee-making facilities, premium toiletries, and even a little mountain goat.

Facilities

The hotel also offers a range of facilities, with Paddle Board lending, rooftop Yoga classes, an outdoor gym, a sauna, and a steam room, all included in your stay. We finished off our stay with full-body massages at the in-house Spa, which would match up to any of the spas I have previously had the pleasure of visiting, so it is well worth adding to your stay.

One of the best things about the hotel is its location. It is less than a five-minute walk to the promenade of Port de Soller, perfect for a stroll along the front for a change of scenery.

The Restaurant

One of the highlights of our stay was undoubtedly the evening meal in Neni, the hotel’s restaurant. In fact, it is generally very hard to get a table here, as priority is given to hotel guests. The hotel doesn’t offer half board as it is so confident in the restaurant experience. They actively encourage you to enjoy the other great eateries in the Port. Of course, there are many on offer, but from our experience, none match up to Neni.

From the moment we arrived at the restaurant, the service was fantastic—attentive but relaxed. The table on the balcony had great views of the port. The whole concept of the restaurant was explained to us: Neni is an eclectic mix of dishes and flavors inspired by their home country of Israel—modern Tel Aviv cuisine.

The menu combines tapas-style dishes and mains and changes regularly. We decided to go for the recommended Balagan taster mezze with wine pairing, as this was described as the best representation of their unique food concept. This is left it to the chef to decide what we had to eat; there was a choice of meat and fish or vegetarian. We were not disappointed. Our mezze included items we would not have ordered but were all absolutely incredible, especially the lamb & seabass, plus the desserts, all with a wine to match. Overall we had a great dining experience and followed it up by enjoying the excellent range of gins in the Donkey Bar afterward.

The breakfast was also excellent, with a fantastic buffet-style breakfast on offer.

One night was just not long enough, and we wholeheartedly agree with the hotel’s slogan: LIFE IS BETTER AT BIKINI. We will be back to stay again soon!

TEN Mallorca, Sineu

Carrer de Son Riera, 10, 07510 Sineu

A boutique hotel in its truest sense, with just 9 individually styled bedrooms. Lovingly restored by owner-operators John and Joanne over a three-year project. It is located in the beautiful and historic inland town of Sineu, the former capital of Mallorca, right in the middle of the island.

From the moment we arrived, we were struck by the history and stature of this beautiful property, tucked away down one of the narrow streets of Sineu. It has a lovely premium boutique feel. The lobby is beautifully laid out in an Art Deco style, with an original tiled floor, bar, and a marble staircase.

We were greeted with an extremely friendly and personable service. Everything is on a first-name basis here. Including a personal guide through the hotel to your room with all the facilities and breakfast times outlined, you’re very much left with the feeling that nothing is too much trouble.

The rooms themselves are all individually designed, following the same Art Deco styling. It’s as though every little detail has been considered. Ours was also beautifully styled, with a huge comfy bed, the largest shower I have ever seen, with two showers, a large freestanding bathtub, and a separate lounge area that opened straight out onto the poolside.

Facilities

The hotel has it all: a fully equipped gym with personal training available. A private hire room is often used for the many weddings they host or exclusive use bookings. They can even arrange beauty treatments and in-room massages. The pool area is very stylish, with beautiful vintage sun parasols and the perfect number of sun loungers for every guest. This means there’s no need to jump out of bed early to reserve your spot by the pool. The pool menu is small but well formed with salads, sandwiches, pasta, and even a sweet treat, all served 1-3 pm.

Restaurant

The hotel doesn’t offer evening food, but it does via its recently opened Bar TEN, just a short 2-minute walk away. Bar TEN is run by daughter Hannah and her partner Stefan, and the friendly service from the hotel continues. The food is bistro-style, and the menu changes regularly. Everything we had was fantastic, all locally sourced and cooked fresh. We sat outside in the beautiful rustic narrow street off the square. The lamb is a must-try, but be sure to save space for the fantastic desserts.

The hotel does close in the evening, so if you fancy a nightcap, be sure to grab a drink at one of the many local bars on your way back.

In the morning, we were once again greeted by the friendly team and shown through to the walled courtyard for our breakfast. Breakfast is included for direct bookings and what a breakfast it was. Everything is served to your table and made fresh to order. Breakfast includes two courses. We enjoyed the homemade granola and pancakes, followed by scrambled eggs with chorizo and poached eggs on sourdough. All fantastic quality, locally sourced, only the best Mediterranean produce, as a result, all dietary requirements can be accommodated.

Location

Sineu itself also offers a fantastic base to explore the island. Its central location means so much is easily accessible. Including the Serra de Tramuntana mountains, the vineyards of the wine region, and some of the most beautiful beaches on the island on the east coast; you can even take the train from Sineu to Palma. It is also a cycling hot spot, offering easy access to some of the best cycle routes on the island. As a result, the hotel has hosted plenty of cycling royalty and is a favorite among many professional cycling teams.

The essence of this beautiful hotel is great friendly service, where nothing is too much trouble. Whether you’re enjoying a few days away or even hosting your wedding here. For us, the hotel epitomizes private, luxury, and relaxation in a stunning, tranquil boutique setting. So, if you’re looking to wind down or go off exploring Mallorca, TEN is an absolute must-book.

Summary

We were honestly blown away by the fantastic selection of boutique hotels in Mallorca. We have used all our experience to showcase the best Mallorca has to offer. Where those little touches are taken care of to give you an authentic boutique stay on this stunning island.

Two standout options for us are BIKKINI in Port de Soller and TEN Mallorca in Sineu. Both hotels offer something quite different but are great examples of boutique hotels.
