Horse Riding in the Countryside

Experience Mallorca’s natural beauty on horseback. Explore lush trails and scenic landscapes, perfect for both beginners and experienced riders. Several ranches across the island offer guided tours, allowing you to connect with nature and see Mallorca from a different perspective. We have enjoyed tours at Rancho Grande in Alcudia, a lovely rustic farm setting with a large barbeque restaurant. We also enjoyed a ride through a rustic trail to the nearby beach, which was a great family day.

Ride the Historic Train to Sóller

Take a nostalgic trip on the historic train from Palma to Sóller for a day out like no other. This charming wooden train, dating back to 1912, starts in Palma and winds through the Serra de Tramuntana mountains, offering breathtaking views. Once in Sóller, wander through its quaint streets and enjoy some local cuisine. You can also take the equally delightful traditional tram to the nearby Port de Sóller, where you can relax along the promenade or browse the lovely shops that line the beachfront.

Dine at a Mountain Restaurant

Es Guix Restaurant

Go off the beaten track and savour local flavors while enjoying amazing views at one of Mallorca’s mountain restaurants. A favorite of ours is Es Guix in Lluc. The ride through the mountains is picturesque, and the restaurant serves delicious Mallorcan cuisine. It is like a hidden oasis with its own natural pool. Another option is Es Verger, located near Alaró; it is delightfully rustic and is famed for its delicious lamb dishes and stunning vistas. It combines gastronomy with natural beauty.

Bike Ride Through the Tramuntana Mountains

For the more adventurous, cycling through the Tramuntana Mountains is a must. The well-marked trails cater to all levels, offering challenging climbs and rewarding descents. Cycle through some delightful towns and villages, stopping along the way to take in the stunning views.. You can rent a bike and gear from various shops on the island and embark on a journey through Mallorca’s rugged terrain. Read our guide to cycling in Mallorca here.

Day Trip on a Catamaran

Attraction Catamaran

Set sail on a catamaran and explore Mallorca’s stunning coastline. Many tours offer swimming and snorkeling stops, gourmet buffet lunches, and plenty of time to relax and soak up the sun whilst bobbing about on the Mediterranean. The catamarans offer plenty of space to relax with your friends in the sun, and it’s a fantastic way to see the island from a different angle and enjoy the Mediterranean Sea.

Vineyard Tour and Wine Tasting

Ses Talaioles

Mallorca boasts several excellent vineyards producing award-winning wines. Book a vineyard tour to learn about the winemaking process and enjoy tastings. Bodegas Ribas and Macià Batle are popular choices, offering beautiful settings and wines. We prefer some of the more boutique wineries that do smaller personalized tours by appointment, like Ses Talaioles, which is one of our favorites, with fantastic wine in one of the most beautiful settings.

Relax at a Beach Club

Gran Folies Beach Club

Indulge in luxury at one of Mallorca’s exclusive beach clubs. With plush loungers, infinity pools, stunning views, and exquisite cuisine, places like Mhares Sea Club, Purobeach and Gran Folies offer the perfect setting for a day of relaxation and pampering by the sea. Read our guide to the best beach clubs here.

Explore a Gin Distillery

Distillery Tour

Discover the art of gin-making at one of Mallorca’s distilleries. A tour at Gin Eva or Mallorca Distillery provides insight into the distillation process and allows you to sample unique, locally crafted gins and even make your own. It’s a delightful experience for spirits enthusiasts.

Visit a Local Market

Immerse yourself in local culture by visiting one of Mallorca’s vibrant markets. My personal favorites are the Saturday market in Santanyi, the Sunday market in Pollença, and the Wednesday market in Sineu. These markets offer a range of goods, from fresh produce to handcrafted souvenirs. They have a lovely, vibrant atmosphere and are a great way to experience the island’s local life and pick up unique treasures.

Go Caving at Cuevas del Drach

For a unique adventure, explore the Cuevas del Drach, located on the east coast of Mallorca. These impressive caves feature stunning stalactites and stalagmites and one of the largest underground lakes in the world. Enjoy a day out of the hot sun and take a guided tour, which often includes a boat ride and a classical music concert inside the cave.

Kayak Around the Island’s Hidden Coves

Rent a kayak at one of the many beaches and paddle through Mallorca’s crystal-clear waters to discover hidden coves and secluded beaches. This activity is perfect for those who love water sports and want to explore the island’s coastline at their own pace.

Hot Air Balloon Ride Over Mallorca

For an unforgettable experience, take a hot-air balloon ride and marvel at Mallorca’s landscapes from above. This is on my to-do list and is something that I would love to experience. The sunrise flights look particularly magical, with a serene and breathtaking view of the island as it awakens.

Summary

Mallorca is brimming with unique day-out opportunities that go beyond the usual tourist attractions. Whether you’re looking for adventure, relaxation, or cultural immersion, these activities offer something for everyone. Make your holiday in Mallorca unforgettable by exploring some of these fantastic alternatives.
